About

AstroVillain is a Melbourne/Naarm based jazz-funk collective, formed by Daniel McKenzie (keys) and Conor Anderson-Vague (drums).

Inspired by many different types of music, this five piece have blended their own brand of acid-jazz, funk, disco and soul. Combining elements of mystical ambience and soothing vocal melodies with fierce grooves and crunchy riffs, AstroVillain has curated a signature planetary sound that has grooved its way into the heart of Melbourne's underground future-jazz scene.

So far this year, AstroVillain have released a new single Impulse Launch in April (featuring the vocal talents of Isadora Lauritz) and headlined shows at Bergy Bandroom, The Beast and Belgrave Hotel.

In 2023, AstroVillain released their very first 12"vinyl and a video series HQ Sessions on YouTube. The band embarked on their debut tour to Sydney in November, which included shows at LazyBones Lounge, Yulli's Brews and some time in the studio. Some other highlights for the year were headline shows in Melbourne at Northcote Social Club, The Night Cat and Leadbeater Hotel.

In 2022, AstroVillain released a double EP Cosmic Operations, Pt.1 and Cosmic Operations, Pt. 2, culminating in EP launches at Melbourne's Colour Club and The Gasometer Hotel, a live interview on Triple R's "Get Down", and airplay across radio stations such as Melbourne's PBS FM, Triple R, SYN FM, 3MDR and Sydney's 2MBS.
